1.

Q: I know it would be alot more convenient to have a Pool service, But isn't it expensive ?

A:  To the contrary, Basic Chemical Service starts about $59 per month.

2.

Q:  At times our kids complain about their eyes burning and the fact that the water smells like chlorine?

A:  Most  pool owners use chlorine to sanitize their pool. Sometimes however chlorine  can combine with ammonia and nitrogen-based organics primarily from swimmer waste and form chloramines , which can impede water clarity, cause eye irritation, and cause “smelly” water.  The solution is to keep a safe level (2.0-4.0 ppm) of  FREE  Available Chlorine, ie; chlorine that is NOT combined.into chloramines. This is most easily accomplished by using a chlorine-free  “shock”  at a rate of 1# per 10,000 gallons of water.  “Shocking” your pool should be done regularly, especially during heavy use.

3.

QThe water in my pool always seems to be cloudy.  I can see the bottom but it just doesn’t seem to sparkle?

A:  There are many  possible causes for “cloudy” water.  Some of the likely causes are:High levels of chloramines as described above;  Dirty or clogged pool filter; Insufficient filter run-time; Algae growth. Sand, Cartridge, and D.E. filters  have different  levels of efficiency and require   varying levels of maintenance. We recommend a regular cleaning schedule for all pool filters. This schedule will vary by filter type and manufacturer directions, but   a good rule of thumb for most pools is every 6 months or  when filter pressures  rises 6-8lbs.All filters must  “run” for enough time to keep your pool clear. Recommended

Times are as follows: DAILY

            SAND-  10 hours

            CARTRIDGE-  8 hours

            D.E.-  6hours

4.

Q:  I have a persistent problem with yellow algae in my pool?

A:  Yellow algae can be a Very Difficult problem in some pools. Algaecides can often  control but not eliminate the problem.  The latest technology suggests that removing Phosphates (the FOOD algae lives on) from the water on a regular basis can eliminate persistent algae problems.
